the old orange door stands tall and proud
the peeling paint and cracked wood don't deter me
every day I walk on by
past the broken fence no longer white
years of weather taking its toll
grass so high the birds can take flight
house lights no longer bright
but the door
it's here like every other night
closing me off from the unknown
a world i'm desperate to explore
if it wasn't for that damn door
what's stopping me?
i'm not even sure
my pacing is wearing down the cobbles on this road
i need to decide
there is no reward without risk
i just have a feeling
no
i know
knocking on that door is not the way to go
maybe i'll go around back
find a side door
see what's lurking behind
but that just doesn't sit right
i want to walk through that forbidden door
i need to pass through the amber portal
find my way home
i don't belong out here
left in the frigid cold
the leaves have died again
exposing the holes
i feel it stirring inside
i can't let it go
every Samhain it's the same
the eerie feeling is begging me
showing me where to go
i can hear the crows screaming
telling me to take the leap
my steps change path
the door is all i see
that creaky gate can't stop me
i'm past the first hurdle
my speed increased
the disheveled steps creak beneath my feet
that large rusted handle within reach
knocking might be out, but i have a feeling if i push—
the door swings open
phantom winds flying through
the portal is before me
black and white swirl together
the doorway illuminated by a moonlit sky
my heart pounds between my ears
excitement growing
i take a step forward, then another
already knowing
the House of October has always been mine
nothing can stop me now that i'm inside
the ancient orange door is no longer the enemy
as it closes behind me, so does my life before
it's so clear now
i can't believe i didn't see it before
October is my home
it will give me everything and more
