The Haunted Perfume Bottle

Turned out to be a ashes necklace

The Haunted Perfume Bottle

At a bustling car boot, bright one day,
I sent my hubby on his way.
“Find me a perfume bottle rare,
With vintage charm beyond compare.”

He wandered off with cheerful stride,
Then came back beaming full of pride.
“I’ve found the perfect one,” said he.
“It looks as old as old can be!”

It sparkled softly in the light,
A little bottle, pure delight.
Upon my shelf it proudly stayed,
While months slipped by and seasons played.

Then one fine day, with curious grin,
I thought I’d have a peek within.
I slowly turned the little top…
What happened next made my heart stop!

No fragrant scent or sweet perfume…
Just black mysterious powder… doom!
I stared in shock and gave a yell,
“This doesn’t look or smell too well!”

“Take it outside!” I loudly cried.
“Don’t leave that thing in here!” I sighed.
“Throw it across the farmer’s field…
Whatever secrets it concealed!”

My husband laughed, “You’ll be alright.”
But I was spooked that very night.
Then suddenly a thought appeared…
One that was funny… and quite weird.

“It’s been in here a whole year’s stay…
Since then I’ve not been right one day!
I’ve felt so poorly, don’t you see…
Perhaps that bottle’s haunting me!”

“My head keeps turning round,” I joked,
As both of us just laughed and poked.
“I’m not possessed… well… not just yet…
But that’s one thing I won’t forget!”

Now every creak the old house made,
Had both of us just slightly swayed.
We laughed until our sides were sore…
Then checked the locks… just one time more!

So if you’re browsing boots for treasure,
Take your time and use good measure.
Unscrew the lid before you pay…
You never know what hides away.

Some bottles hold sweet perfume’s grace,
Some simply gather dust in place.
And some create a tale so bright,
You’ll laugh about it every night.

Mine’s gone now, somewhere down the lane,
Scattered safely across the plain.
If ghosts exist, they’ll have to roam…
Because that bottle’s not coming home!

If my words have touched your heart, and you’ve enjoyed my poetry, a small goodwill gesture would be deeply appreciated. Your kindness helps me continue doing what I love. Thank you for reading. 🌹
