The Green Dream

Tears are falling softly....from deep within the heart,

Of an elderly married couple...politically forced apart.

The innocent victims of a car accident...the day that changed the life,

Of an English born husband...to an American born wife.

An accident so devastating....the physical side to the marriage died,

A true testament to the injuries sustained...and all the tears they cried.

Seventy five percent disabled...spending twenty four hours in a bed,

A commode her only comfort...and wishing that she was dead.

Pain induced depression....hospital appointments by the score,

Awaiting deportation...because of antiquated immigration law.

Refused a spousal Visa....she can get US Medicaid for free,

No home or family to care for her...not where she wants to be.

For old age is a death sentence...that only the living endure,

Where pain and suffering is endless...of that you can be sure.

Tears are like a waterfall...with no beginning or an end,

When you lose your one true love...on whom you've come to depend.

Application for a US Visa refused....a joint sponsor can't be found,

Because an elderly disabled woman in a wheelchair...is no fun to be around.

A lonely life in a nursing home...is all that she has left,

Leaving a doting husband six thousand miles away...totally bereft.

What hands God has joined in marriage...let no man put asunder,

But preserve the sanctity of the union...with so many trails to wonder.

Hope springs eternal....for a life less callous and hard,

Where two elderly hearts can live as one...via the use of a US green card.
