The Great Olive Caper
Snack Time with Dad
Holding a finger to his lips
He walked with purpose to the closet
Opened the door with stealth
When his eyes fell upon the prize
He grabbed the can
Headed straight for the kitchen
~*~
My little steps followed
Pitter-patter down the hall
My great big eyes
Took in his progress
We needed to hurry
Before she found us
~*~
With a can opener in hand
He twisted and grunted
Until we heard the pop
He drained the water and
Then turned to me
I knew just what to do
~*~
I held up my little fingers
Waiting for my prize
One olive for each finger
To hold high in the air
And pop them one by one
In my mouth
~*~
I wanted to savor them
Let them linger
On my tongue
But I ate in haste
Before we were caught
And she found out what we did
