The Girl That Was

Do you know the girl that was?

Look into the eyes of the girl that was, can you see through her deep and empty gaze?

She searches for herself in the eyes of others, she longs to hear their praise.

Notice how some raise her up, watch as others drag her down;

Many of which noticed the fall, most of them let her drown.

This girl stepped out of the light, though she prayed to be seen,

She screamed into the silence, though her voice was lost inside the serene.

The girl that was, was blind and unable to see that she wasn't,

Just as, she was too numb to feel that her smile was empty and vacant.

She wouldn't wait for failure, though couldn't be set free,

She only had a longing, she only held belief.

Her empty gaze, she set on a brand-new vision,

She stopped screaming and to the silence she would listen.

Raising herself, she wouldn't be let down.

Raising herself, she soared to claim her crown.

Do you know the girl that was? Does she still remain?

You may still feel her there inside your heart, unable to separate your fear and her pain.

About the Creator

Jollyoddbod Poetry

Here I am, and here I'll stay;

Like the moon in the darkness that refuses to fade.

Clouds will cover, but cannot take from my reign;

Mark this as the moment that they realise, as they scoff with distain.

They fell asleep, I cannot be blamed.
