The Formula for Joy
Based on Philippians 4:4–7
How do I find joy
When the world won’t go my way?
Things I hoped would come
Keep getting pushed away
When the life I thought I’d have
Seems farther every day
All I can do is carry on
And turn to God and pray
But is there more to say?
Is there another way
To keep my joy
When life won’t go my way?
The formula for joy
Is accept what’s here today
Keep my hopes in reach
And pray for better days
I won’t let my worries
Take my peace away
The peace of God will guard my heart
And help me find my way
Find joy in God always
Not just when things go right
Let my gentle spirit show
When I’m tested by this life
Instead of giving in to fear
I’ll tell him what I need
I’ll pray about what troubles me
And thank him for what I see
I don’t control tomorrow
I don’t have to know the way
I can tell him what I’m hoping for
Then leave it there to stay
The formula for joy
Is accept what’s real today
Keep my hopes in reach
And pray for better days
I won’t let my worries
Take my peace away
The peace of God will guard my heart
And help me find my way
Maybe peace is not
Getting everything I want
Maybe joy is not
A life where nothing goes wrong
Maybe peace is knowing
Whatever comes my way
Jehovah hears me when I call
And gives me strength to wait
The formula for joy
Is accept what’s real today
Hold my hopes with open hands
And give my cares away
Maybe what I’m praying for
Will come some other way
But his peace will guard my heart
And help my joy to stay
So I will carry on
I will give thanks and pray
And the peace I can’t explain
Will guard my heart each day
