The Fogging Train

Through the Wood

the mountain fog rolled

through the base of tree trunks

frosting bark, leaves and roots

like a steamroller of smoke

you could see it coming from across the valley bottom

whatever was in its way would feel its bite

chugging, rolling, barreling, breathing through forest floor

after the smoke settled from its grand entrance, you could hear the hisssssssss

as it pulled away from roots and revealed a moisture shivering wood

squirrels tried to outrun its speed

if you couldn’t find shelter in time

you hope to find a hollow root to wait out the thundering steam

chugga chugga chugga chugga

the fogging train through the wood

Pieces of Me ~ Poems by Heidi

In 2022, I came across a bin of my journals spanning many years. It was then that I realized I haven’t told people I enjoy writing or shared my work publicly. I decided to start.
