The Fog of War

War Dead Are Fated

By Chris ZPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read
"Theirs not to reason why; theirs but to do and die." -Tennyson, 1854

The Fog of War

We stand on ceremonies

to sleep through the night

Sable skies alight

With fireworks in flight.

Tricolored displays

Flags flown half-mast;

Here and there holidays

Harken back to wars past.

When duty bayed,

they took the call

All gave some,

some gave all.

The sentiment’s commendable

But everyone’s expendable.

War dead are fated

when the fog of war's abated.
