The Fate of the world

Lay hold, heave

Suppose for moment,

the fate of the world

rested with one person.

One individual who, like it or not,

held humanity’s survival in their grasp.

Their footing precarious. Their grip slipping.

The rest of us watching, silent.

How rapt would our attention be?

How focused our hope, a singular world wide focus of humanity.

Cheering this individual on, could they would they hold til

the danger passed.

Now suppose for a moment

the fate of the world rested with everyone.

Do or die.

All hands holding, grasping, working together, determined.

Should any of us slip, others would take up the slack.

Humanity working together as one for the greater good.

Where is it that you think we are?

Are most watching, standing idly by. Expecting others to take the weight.

Unwilling to even make a few sacrifices.

Or do you think, really believe that most are helping,

pitching in to save ourselves.

Sadly I’m doubtful.
