I slink across the floor

playing leapfrog

with my shadow

never quite able to restore

that feeling of

carefree youth

‎‧₊˚✧🪩✧˚₊‧

reaching center stage

as a spotlight

blazes overhead

blasting my shade

into wispy oblivion

‎‧₊˚✧🪩✧˚₊‧

rising from a

crouching position

I know this is where

the music begins

so I instinctively

start to set up

for my spins

only to realize I

am leaning into

silence

‎‧₊˚✧🪩✧˚₊‧

undeterred

I have rehearsed and

know the beats

as well as the steps

so I double down

on my impromptu

solo acapella performance

unburdening my soul

for an audience of

anchored ghosts
