The Equinox Celebration

A Story of Xy

By Mark Stigers Published 3 months ago 3 min read

There were many preparations

For soon the equinox would be here

For a celebration

That many held so dear

In the heart of Xy it be

At the point of twilight

Within a crystal one could see

The gift of mystic sight

A question they could ask

Twice that day they’d try

Quite the magic task

For the Kingdom of Xy

There would be a grand feast

That night to celebrate what was learned

Anything shown in the least

Was knowledge that was earned

The chefs wanted to make truffle pie

For the fantastic party

A slice everyone would want to try

Those who had not would be so very sorry

They needed truffles by the pound

for old Hilda the sow they called

She was a truffle hound

And always brought in quite the haul

Bob the cook was sent

Along with Bash from the guard

On a mission they went

This should not be very hard

Each member of the guard had

A crystal to call a Dragon of Xy

If the situation got really bad

And there was nothing else to try

They wandered around for the day

Gathering truffles from near and far

But they were far enough away

To spend the night under the stars

“Bash, what did you do with the sack?”

“Which sack you talking about, Bob?”

“The sack of truffles as a matter of fact.”

“Bash, don’t tell me we’ve been robbed?”

“With the horse’s tackle they’re not there

with the sow Bob, they are not.”

“Bash, they are not anywhere

Quite a problem we now got.”

Suddenly Hilda squealed real loud

Then she disappeared from sight

Then there was a pixie crowd

Emerging in the night

One came from the pixie cloud

“I am Twinkle, leader of this band

You are our prisoners now

And you shall hear our demand.

You must pay a toll for using the road

We are taking your sow and sack.”

We are now in control

Bob cried, “You will give our stuff back!”

Twinkle said, “You are now in our land.

We shall make the rules.”

Bash said, “We will take a stand

For we are no one’s fool.

Your city we will smash

The stuff is ours, we will fight.”

The pixie said, “We will stop you in a flash.”

“You won’t survive the night.”

The pixie, Bob tried to grab

But it darted forward

Bob’s hand twinkle stabbed

With a little sword

“Ouch!” Bob said, “you little biting fly.

I will swat you down, it is sworn .”

Twinkle said, “You may try

But you’ll have to face our storm.”

They were swarmed by the pixie mass

And many times they were stabbed

Bash his dragon crystal he did cast

For the situation was getting bad

The crystal exploded in a flash

And overhead a dragon roared

A great white Dragon landed at last

“What is going on,” the dragon swore?

“They took the King’s truffles,” Bob cried!

“They want to smash our city,” Twinkle said.

“They cannot charge a toll,” Bash sighed.

“Enough!” As the dragon it shook its head.

Said the dragon “One at a time will do

As smoke curled from its nose.

“Before I roast the lot of you

Explain how this all arose.”

Twinkle pointed the meadow to all

“This is Pixie Vale,” she cried

“Our city grows among these flowers tall

And through it they now ride.”

Xy has used this road for years,” said Bash

“Long before you settled here.”

The dragon was aware of the past

“And both sides have a claim, I fear.”

We shall ask the mirror

This equinox we shall see

A solution of splendor

It is sure to be

On the equinox before first light

The Queen into the mirror stared

Looking for the magic sight

To bring an answer fair

a tax on each foot you count

Paid in flower seeds and honey

Plus a small saffron amount

Instead of a sum of money

From the saffron and honey

The Pixies made a liquor fine

Pixie Gold made your day nice and sunny

In your flask a drink sublime

Bob returned with truffles rare

And Hilda was nice and safe

The cooks soon baked enough to share

For all who came to celebrate

The feast began at candlelight

Beneath the autumn sky

The pixies came that very night

And shared the truffle pie

Twinkle raised a flask of gold

The King and Queen raised one too

A tale of peace was gladly told

And friendship stronger grew

surreal poetry
