The Door, The Breath

lyric

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about a month ago • 1 min read

[Verse 1]
I'm tired of arguing with my own mind
Teaching it the borders aren't the sky
It counts the walls, the weight, the measured time
While something in me keeps asking why
[Pre-Chorus]
This body is a room with borrowed keys
A careful cage built out of certainty
[Chorus]
I won't mistake the map for where I live
I won't call small the life I came to give
Past every limit, past the narrow frame
There's more of me than this familiar shape
I am not finished at the edge of skin
I am the door, the breath, the world within
[Verse 2]
I'm tired of carrying this dense disguise
Every step feels heavier than truth
The brain keeps filing wonder into size
But wonder never learned what it can't do
[Pre-Chorus]
Let the old laws loosen in my hands
Let me become what I don't understand
[Chorus]
I won't mistake the map for where I live
I won't call small the life I came to give
Past every limit, past the narrow frame
There's more of me than this familiar shape
I am not finished at the edge of skin
I am the door, the breath, the world within
[Bridge]
If I am more than matter, let it show
Not as escape, but as a deeper knowing
I can inhabit every breath below
And still reach past the form that keeps me going
[Final Chorus]
I won't mistake the map for where I live
I won't call small the life I came to give
Past every limit, past the narrow frame
There's more of me than this familiar shape
I am not finished at the edge of skin
I am the door, the breath, the world within
[Outro]
The walls are real, but they are not the whole
The body holds me; it does not own my soul
