The doomsayers of the colonies

Listen to my voice, pay attention to my tale,

Lest freedom surely harden, the bread of life so stale,

Does your toil seem unyielding, is the abundance of your crops stalled?

Has the burden placed upon you make you horrid and appalled?

Are your liberties secured, are you men that are truly free?

Have these demands become unyielding, are the governor’s unjust when they issue a decree?

Has poverty become your portion, or disease the wicked blight?

Have you ever truly wondered what lurks in the realm of night?

Do they stalk you in the shadows, taking refuge without consent?

Have they mocked and stolen your first fruits without the willingness to repent?

Has the king become overbearing? Has a glutton claimed his keep?

Will this tyrant surely prosper while the widows mourn and weep?

Has your spirit of your temple quenched upon the eerie touch of winters chill?

Will the coldness of a king be his willingness to kill?

Then join me in the fight, take arms my brethren,

For we are not slaves to a kingdom, we are a country in the new world of free men!
