The Doll

a poem

By Slgtlyscatt3redPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

Broken China doll, she fell on the floor

Pieces cracked, strewn about,

She met her twisted fate

Leaning down, observing the girl

The girl below on the bed sits and

rests her head. Listens to music

to muffle her cries. Closes her eyes,

closes her eyes. Dreams of distant

futures in starry skies, where

her ideas would matter,

she could speak, and finally say

what she came here to say

before she had even opened her eyes

the doll felt a sweeping wind as she sniffled,

a glistening crystal tear running down her cheek

she, leaned forward too far in her teary eyed haze

and started plummeting down towards the floor

her arms searched the air for anything to hold

but she knew she was falling, and the end

was in sight. The clatter, the shake, like

a miniature earthquake, down comes

the doll and she breaks, and

Anne Marie thinks that maybe, she,

felt like a little piece of her

was broken on that day, too.
