By the flickering light of the ancient lamp,

By the twinkling waters of an ancient river,

The dancer entertains the heathen enemies,

She moves around the roaring, crackling fire,

The shadows copying her slow and careful movements,

The fascinating history forever etched in stone,

She turns to find the trees watching her,

The wind swaying their branches to the rhythm of her body,

In a monumental discovery,

The stars blind her with their glorious light,

Her eyes well with tears as they show her the history of the land,

The beautiful, happy, the sad, everything,

Seeing it all her body trembles with emotion,

She falls to the ground, the stone cooling the heat of the stars,

The dancer knocks the lamp over, the glass breaking and the light dying,

The enemies watch her with fascination, unable to see what she sees,

She stands back up and continues to dance, forever changed.
