The machines hum and whirr all day,
As people work and play away,
They've made our lives so much more easy,
From home to work, and everything in between.
*
We carry them in our pockets and bags,
The gadgets that have become our tags,
They connect us to the world at large,
From miles away, we're in charge.
*
But amidst the screens and wires and chips,
There's a world that's often eclipsed,
The world of nature, of beauty and peace,
That technology often fails to release.
*
There was a man who lived in the city,
Whose life revolved around his technology,
He had a phone and a laptop and a tablet,
And a smartwatch that beeped every minute.
*
He worked and played on his devices,
Connecting with people from all different places,
But one day, his screen went black,
And he was lost, without a plan of attack.
*
He wandered outside, into the streets,
And found a park, with trees and a creek,
He sat on a bench, and breathed in the air,
And felt a peace he thought was rare.
*
He watched the children play and run,
And saw the beauty of the setting sun,
He realized then, with a sudden clarity,
That technology had blinded his reality.
*
He vowed to balance his life from then on,
To cherish the natural world he'd forgotten,
To use his gadgets for good, not for show,
And to appreciate life, both high and low.
*
Technology is a powerful tool,
But it's up to us to use it as a jewel,
To enhance our lives, not to replace,
The beauty of nature, and the joy it brings to our face.
