THE DEVIL’S HALF-WAY PLACE

Forever Stuck. You can’t go up or down

THE DEVIL’S HALF-WAY PLACE

There is a place, distance unknown,
Between the here and gone,
Where time and everything stands still,
And nothing can move on.

I knew a man from yesterday,
Who somehow wandered there,
Now trapped between two different worlds,
Still crying in despair.

Sometimes I hear his wailing voice,
Sometimes I glimpse his face,
Trying desperately to reach me,
From that strange forgotten place.

It makes me shake to see him trapped,
No earth or heaven can he know,
No doorway opens to release him,
There is nowhere he can go.

How did he become imprisoned?
That still bewilders me.
What terrible thing had happened,
That meant he’d never be set free?

I think he dabbled with the Devil,
To pay his old life debts,
Believing once the price was paid,
His troubled soul could rest.

But never bargain with the Devil,
For the Devil deals in lies.
He promises you freedom,
While damnation fills his eyes.

He double-crossed that foolish man,
And laughed as darkness fell,
But strangely never took his soul
To burn with him in Hell.

Instead he left him halfway there,
Where neither kingdom reigns,
Caught inside a coloured net,
Bound by invisible chains.

And there he watches heaven glow,
And earth continue on,
While everything he ever loved
Has lived and died and gone.

So learn from all his shady dealings,
Keep to the track that’s paved with love.
Never make deals with the Devil—
He belongs to Hell, not here or above.

And should you glimpse those weeping eyes
Where coloured lights condemn,
Remember there are doors in life
You must never open again. Amen
