THE DEVIL AMID THE COLOURS

The devil came dressed in colours

With a wicked smile of red

He wore no horns upon his face

Nor flames around his head

He danced among the rainbows

Where innocence would play

He painted all his wicked lies

In colours bright as day

His yellow was his jealousy

His purple full of pride

His green became the bitter envy

He carried deep inside

He whispered words of kindness

To hearts already torn

Then laughed behind his painted smile

At every soul he'd worn

He promised them a paradise

Where sorrow couldn't stay

But every dream he handed out

He slowly took away

A little child stood watching

And looked him in the eye

She asked him why his colours danced

When all he did was lie

His crimson smile grew crooked

His colours lost their glow

For no one ever questioned him

Or dared to tell him so

He tried to hide his wickedness

Beneath another shade

But all the colours started crying

For the misery he'd made

He watched the child walk from him

Then painted back his grin

For devils never show the world

The darkness held within

So never trust a painted smile

No matter how it glows

For evil wears the brightest colours

And hides where beauty grows
