The autumn sky dissolved in spun meringue,
While amber moons like melting globes of fire
Began to drip where velvet shadows sang,
And frost wove crystal ferns upon the wire.
Upon a cloud of crust, translucent, brown,
The harvest slept within a frozen dream;
The harvest moon fell softly upside down,
Churned into streaks of spiced and amber cream.
A cinnamon gale blew past the silver trees,
Where porcelain stars dipped low to taste the glow,
And ghosts of nutmeg floated on the breeze,
Above a surreal world of indigo.
With spoons of glass, the merry phantoms came
To scoop the chill from autumn’s glowing heart,
And swallowed sundown, tasting smoke and flame,
As starry galaxies dissolved in art.
