The Demons Inside

the time she almost lost the battle with herself

not my photo

A darkened room.

Racing thoughts.

Spinning.

'Round... 'Round.

Over and over again.

The next faster than the last.

Screaming.

Louder... Louder.

Not from my lips, no.

Louder... Louder.

Where was the screaming coming from?

My lips pursed together.

My hands clutching against my skull,

pulling out my hair by the clump full.

Louder... Louder... Still.

Seriously!? Where is it coming from?

My hands feeling for my lips,

expecting to find my lips left parted...

Instead, yet again, they've been closed...

almost, stuck together, glued in place.

Unable to budge.

Ringing in the ears.

Screaming. Over and Over.

Small droplets down the cheeks.

Louder... Louder.

Hands balled into fists, clutching at clumps of my hair.

Louder... Louder.

Hands come undone.

Hair unclenched from my fists.

Bottle of pills.

Lid unscrewed.

Louder... Louder.

Bottle tipped.

Louder... Louder.

Pills in hand.

Louder... Louder.

One gulp.

Louder... Louder.

One sip of water.

Louder... Louder.

Head leaning against the wall.

Eyes staring... Staring.

Louder... Louder.

Eyes closing... Closing.

Silence.
