The Days I Almost Gave Up
Sometimes the moments we remember most are the ones when we nearly stopped believing.

There were days I wanted to disappear,
To close the door and stay inside,
To turn away from every dream
And let the current choose the tide.
There were mornings when the sunlight
Felt too heavy on my eyes,
And every road I tried to follow
Seemed to lead to more goodbyes.
I watched other people moving forward,
Building lives and reaching goals,
While I stood beside the starting line
With questions in my soul.
I wondered why their doors were opening
While mine remained closed tight,
Why their stars appeared at midnight
While I couldn't find my light.
I thought perhaps I wasn't chosen.
Maybe dreams belonged to them.
Maybe hope was just a story
Written for a different pen.
So I stopped expecting miracles.
I stopped waiting for a sign.
I told myself that giving up
Was simply another kind
Of accepting what was written,
Another way to understand
That sometimes life gives empty pockets
No matter how you stretch your hand.
But life has strange ways of answering
The questions we don't say.
Sometimes it whispers through a stranger.
Sometimes through an ordinary day.
Sometimes it hides an open doorway
Behind a door we couldn't see,
And sometimes what feels like rejection
Is protection silently.
I learned this slowly.
Not from books,
Not from speeches filled with light,
But from falling down repeatedly
And standing up each night.
I learned that failure isn't always
A declaration of defeat.
Sometimes it is a teacher
Who refuses to be discreet.
It points toward the broken places
We were frightened to repair.
It tells us what we truly value
When everything else isn't there.
I lost things I was sure I'd keep.
I lost plans.
I lost time.
I lost people I had trusted.
I lost reasons for my climb.
There were dreams I had to bury
Because they no longer fit.
And there were versions of myself
I had to finally quit.
I used to think that changing direction
Meant admitting I was wrong.
Now I understand that rivers
Never apologize for moving on.
A river doesn't curse the mountain
Because it couldn't pass straight through.
It bends.
It searches.
It keeps moving.
Maybe we should do that too.
There were nights I counted worries
Instead of counting stars.
I measured every failure
And memorized my scars.
I compared my chapter one
To someone else's final page,
Then wondered why my little story
Couldn't match their polished stage.
But comparison is a thief
That doesn't need a key.
It steals the joy from ordinary things
And whispers,
“You should be more like me.”
So I stopped looking sideways.
I started looking ahead.
Not ten years.
Not forever.
Just toward the next step instead.
One step became a second.
A second became a mile.
And somewhere along the journey,
I remembered how to smile.
Nothing suddenly became perfect.
The problems didn't disappear.
But I discovered something stronger
Than the absence of fear.
Courage isn't being fearless.
It isn't never feeling pain.
Courage is continuing forward
While you're shaking in the rain.
It is making one more effort
When your confidence is gone.
It is opening up the curtains
And deciding to see the dawn.
It is sending one more message.
It is trying one more time.
It is writing one more sentence
When you cannot find the rhyme.
It is walking into tomorrow
Without knowing what you'll find.
It is leaving yesterday behind you
Without hating what you left behind.
I once believed that happiness
Would arrive when I had won.
When the money came.
When the dream came.
When the difficult part was done.
But happiness isn't always waiting
At the finish of the race.
Sometimes it is drinking tea
In a quiet, ordinary place.
Sometimes it is hearing laughter
From somebody that you love.
Sometimes it is watching morning
Turn the darkness into gold above.
Sometimes it is simply breathing
After thinking you could not.
Sometimes it is realizing
That you're stronger than you thought.
And maybe that is the secret:
Life does not promise easy roads.
It promises changing seasons,
Different chapters, different loads.
Winter doesn't mean forever.
Rain doesn't mean the sky is broken.
Silence doesn't mean you've been forgotten.
And a closed door
Doesn't mean you've been forsaken.
Some things take longer.
Some dreams take years.
Some victories arrive quietly
After oceans full of tears.
We want the final photograph.
We want the perfect scene.
We want to understand the reason
For everything we've ever seen.
But life rarely gives explanations
Before the journey has begun.
Sometimes meaning only becomes visible
When you look back at what you've done.
Then you see the nights you survived.
The days you carried on.
The moments you nearly surrendered
Before discovering the dawn.
You realize every difficult season
Left a lesson in your hands.
Every broken expectation
Changed the way you understand.
Every goodbye made room for something.
Every ending cleared the ground.
Every time you thought you were lost
You were learning your way around.
So if today you're tired,
If your heart feels worn and small,
If the mountain looks enormous
And you wonder why you climb at all,
Take one breath.
Then take another.
You don't have to solve your life tonight.
You don't have to see the destination.
You only need enough courage
To keep moving toward the light.
Maybe tomorrow will be difficult.
Maybe next week will be too.
But there are still unwritten pages
Waiting patiently for you.
There are people you haven't met yet.
There are places you haven't seen.
There are mornings you haven't witnessed
When the world will turn serene.
There are songs you haven't heard yet.
There are reasons left to smile.
There are versions of yourself ahead
You haven't met for quite a while.
So don't let one terrible chapter
Convince you the whole book ends.
Don't let one person's rejection
Tell you who you cannot become.
Don't let one failed beginning
Make you fear another start.
And don't confuse a temporary darkness
With the absence of a heart.
Because sometimes the strongest people
Are not those who never fall.
They are the ones who hit the ground
And still get up after it all.
I know this now.
I learned it slowly.
Through every loss I couldn't understand.
Through every dream that slipped away.
Through every time I had to rebuild
With trembling hands.
And if I could speak to the person
I was on those darkest days,
I'd tell them:
You are not finished.
You are not forgotten.
You are not behind.
Keep going.
The road may not look like the road
You imagined in your mind,
But somewhere beyond the fear,
Beyond the doubt, beyond the pain,
There is another morning waiting.
And you haven't seen it yet.
So stay.
Keep walking.
Keep becoming.
Your story isn't over.
