The Day the World Ceased to Be

Thank God it was just a horrid nightmare

The Day the World Ceased to Be

It started as a normal day,
People merrily on their way.
They didn’t know by half-past three,
There’d be no one left alive, you see.

Not one person would survive this thing,
Not one bird would ever sing.
For life as we know it would cease to exist,
And everything we loved would be lost in the mist.

The skies turned black, the oceans roared,
The rain came down as the heavens poured.
The mountains trembled, the buildings fell,
The peaceful Earth became a living hell.

The rivers rose and the valleys drowned,
The earth split open with a thunderous sound.
The trees were uprooted, the forests died,
As waves swept across the countryside.

No children laughed, no church bells rang,
No voices called, no sweet birds sang.
The streets lay empty, cold and bare,
Not one living soul was anywhere.

The sun disappeared, the moon lost its glow,
The stars went dark in the heavens above.
No flowers would bloom, no rivers would flow,
And nowhere remained for a seed to grow.

The silence was frightening, the darkness complete,
No footsteps echoed along any street.
The world had ended, or so it seemed,
And nothing remained of the life we’d dreamed.

Thank God I awoke and everything was all right,
It was just another nightmare I’d had this night.
Nothing had destroyed our precious Earth,
Or taken away its beauty and worth.

The world keeps turning beneath the sky,
With the sun and moon still passing by.
And nothing will change that, not you nor I,
And I must remember that dreams often lie.
