The day the floods came

Only the fish can survive.

The Day the Floods Came

The sky split open, grey and vast,

A swollen river of clouds amassed.

The earth, once firm, began to weep,

A torrent woke what lay asleep.

Streets became a churning tide,

Where whispers of the past reside.

Homes dissolved into the stream,

Memories swept like a broken dream.

The trees bowed low in solemn grace,

Roots unmoored from their resting place.

Bridges groaned, then gave their call,

A warning cry before the fall.

And when the fall had run its course,

The flood stood silent, cold, and coarse.

A world erased, no trace of man,

Only shadows where life began.

The land lay drowned, a sunken grave,

Its monuments lost to the water’s wave.

Stagnant seas claimed what was near,

No voice remained, no sound to hear.

The oceans thrived, a realm reborn,

While silence crowned the drowned and torn.

The fish swam free in the endless sprawl,

Masters now of what once was all.
