The Darkness within

A Poem embodying: FEAR

You can’t escape me. I haunt your thoughts day by day. You walk around all high and mighty but deep down you can’t take it. I am the darkness that follows you wherever you go. I laugh as you shake, sweat running down your face. Your heart racing, footsteps pacing, you try to scream but the frog in your throat stops you from raging. I distract you. I make you fall to your knees praying to god to ‘fight’ me but you’ll always lose. I’m that winner that could make you a sinner, you stare at my face in complete silence not uttering a single word. I dissolve in you, piercing your soul. You’re not ready for me. I suggest you step back and go home.

I’m not going to lie, I can be used. Maybe to pull the trigger or run through the city blocks away from the men in dark blue. I make you contemplate looking everywhere with your eyes, wondering if someday, someone would want to take your life. You walk through the city, hands in your pockets, afraid of the scene. You try your best to go straight home avoiding anything that can cause you stress. I overwhelm you, drive you crazy. Aw man! I’m sorry for causing the hesitation. Oh please I’m just playing. I love messing with you because of the temptations.

Man don’t mess with me, I can paralyze you and make you my peasant. My presence is consuming your present. I’m not your past but I haunt your future. Everyone sees me as a monster, a creature. Look around you, can’t you see it? 2020 is the epitome of what I am, don't forget it. I'm in your head as you think about how college is expensive, wondering if you should achieve your dreams or just forget it. You look at your mother wondering if you should leave her, the house you live in ain't gonna be here forever.

There’s a purpose with me, you just have to see. There’s no need to run, I think you should just embrace me. Once you do that every bad thought you think of will stop. We don't have to be enemies. We could be friends, walking side by side all the way till the end.
