The Darkened Glass

Until We Can See

Glistening eyes

Peer through the dew-damp window

From the dusty

Cozy cottage

Where in the warm candlelight

Nostalgia floats like a silent haze

Between these age-old walls

Callow fingers swab the droplets from the glass

To gain a clearer vision

Of the virgin morning

That peers a rested brow

Just above

The sparkling skyline

Vibrant toes jolt up

To add a bit of stature

And perch upon a higher pedestal

She strains to view

The distant dreams

That threaten to emerge

Attentive ears scan the silence

For a footstep

Or a sigh

Any sign or proof

That says that life

Is just beyond the horizon

And all in all she waits

Predisposed to take the plunge

Whenever the signal is given

For she is confident

Her wings will sprout

Before she has a chance to fall

And so intently she watches

And patiently she waits

Watching the future approach

Through the darkened glass
