The Dancer
Gracefully she puts on the best show she can

The Dancer
She dances like her soul is breaking
Each movement filled with hidden pain
Smiling brightly for the crowd
While storms are pouring through her veins
The stage lights shimmer on her skin
Her shadow stretches on the floor
People cheer the graceful woman
Never seeing something more
Every spin escapes a memory
Every step outruns the past
Music keeps her heart distracted
From wounds she knows will always last
She learned young how to hide sorrow
Behind elegance and art
Turning grief into performance
Keeping rhythm with her heart
Men admire the way she moves
Women envy all her grace
None of them can see the darkness
Resting softly on her face
When the theatre finally empties
And silence fills the dressing room
She removes the painted smile
And sits alone beside the gloom
Still tomorrow she will return
Dancing through another night
A lonely soul chasing freedom
Beneath the burning stage light
The dancer bows before the audience
As applause begins to rise
Still nobody truly notices
The sadness living in her eyes
