The Dance
Life's Full Measure
Life in nine months will give us
A gift so precious and rare
Years that follow, bestow upon us
Grace, beauty, and love beyond compare
The future will be filled with many things:
Wonder, heartache, and immeasurable joy
That brings the fruition of wisdom and love
That only the heart of a parent may know
In its spinning and perpetual state,
Life’s dance will continue in full glory
To create and traverse a passage,
Hour by hour, day by day, story by story
Life will give abundant love and joy
In times and years of reflection
But it will also bestow sadness and despair
Moving slowly, amidst perils of imperfection
Regardless, in its glory the life we treasure
Will continue the lineage of our lives
Dancing, evolving, measure by measure
Through happiness, tears, and strife
For what we experience makes us unique
Be it wisdom, joy, love, or grief
The days will turn and toil about us
Leaving a marking like lines upon a leaf
The dance is a gift beyond imagination
Something to which nothing can compare
In all glory and magnificence
We must spin a pirouette most rare
Before age creeps upon us far too swiftly
And brings us to full measure amidst confusion
When the child will be the parent who cares
For the elder living in illusions and delusions
So sing loudly from a breast full of song
Dance until your feet can no longer twirl
Enjoy existence in utmost measure each day
Allowing rare moments in your dance to unfurl
