doubt haunts you, like the devil

second guessing all your sins

stirring fear to unseen levels

raping the sanity within

frozen caverns, unescapable

stealing the air of ruptured lungs

ravaging those, supposed, unbreakable

then, silencing their tongues

hate is a torpedo

tied to the necks of fearless men

paler as the sickness grow

pillaged time and time again

until all that remains is tarnished

as rotten as the bowels of hell

all cleaned up and garnished

at least, that's what we tell ourselves

to call and appease the fickle heart

as it wants the things it wants

leading us back to the start

of how the doubting haunts
