“The Daily Fight”
A Post Parade Poem…
The American “melting pot” ideal is based on “The American Dream”.
Then there is the American reality which is different than both those seem.
Whether acknowledged by a commemorative month or day or parade marching rank and file.
Diversity is part of our society’s goal based on each demographic’s information the government can compile.
Sexuality is one segment that so many citizens feel they must hide.
To remain socially enfranchised they might only celebrate their alternative lifestyle during Gay Pride.
Some don’t have that luxury as a demographic that is obviously in society’s face.
When they’re apparently a different hue or otherwise known to be a minority race.
Collectively we celebrate while showing our numbers at parade events.
If it’s not a joyous parade then its a riot when a groups’ rage against injustice it vents!
There’s how we feel as a collective group as we party and chant for the nation.
Then there is also how one feels when that’s over and we’re ALL alone against a subjugated social station.
When the party is over there is only one thing that’s truly real.
If one can look in the mirror at their self and be proud about what they see and feel.
To be treated like a human being is a basic right.
Regardless of one’s demographic that will always be a daily fight!
