all the bitter pills

I swallowed

only masked the symptoms

of the greater ill

that filled

the nooks and crannies

of the hollowed out

insides of me

where love

was scooped out

taken

for their just desserts

pharmaceuticals

to numb pain

to illicit synthetic happiness

to facture memory

and woo sleep

like a long lost lover

but there was still

the aching bitterness

of the hollow.

I sought the greener pastures

sparkling emerald

in the sun and soaked up her rays

until I began to find shapes

in the clouds again

like a child

my heart syncopated

with the hooves of wild mustangs

I floated on the wind

once more

a dandelion seed

a wish returning home

to the sky that had always held her

toes in the earth of land that knew her

and I wept tears of joy again

for I was no longer sick

in need of medicine that would never cure

I was finally

finally

home.
