THE CRYSTAL THAT HEALED MY THOUGHTS
My healing crystal my friend

THE CRYSTAL THAT HEALED MY THOUGHTS
I bought a crystal to heal my mind,
For lately my thoughts had been so unkind,
I’d pulled myself down till I couldn’t see,
A single good thing that was left inside me.
I was my own critic, the worst I had known,
Finding fault with the seeds that I’d carefully sown,
And somewhere beneath all the worry and pain,
I wondered if I’d ever feel happy again.
I held up the crystal, so pretty and bright,
It shimmered like diamonds caught in the light,
I placed it gently upon my head,
And nearly fell over when the crystal said,
“Come with me now, there’s something to see,
A place where your troubled thoughts can be free.”
Before I could answer or question it why,
I was floating through darkness beneath a strange sky.
It carried me into a kingdom of glass,
Where nobody lived and no footsteps could pass,
The mountains were silver, the rivers were snow,
And nothing unpleasant was permitted to flow.
The trees were transparent, their branches like ice,
The crystal said softly, “Isn’t this nice?”
But I shivered with cold as I looked all around,
For the silence was louder than any known sound.
“Lie down in the snow,” the crystal then said,
“And place me once more on the top of your head.”
I trembled with fear as I lowered myself,
Onto the snow like a forgotten old elf.
“What happens now? Will I ever get home?
Or am I forever condemned here to roam?”
The crystal replied, “There’s no need for fright,
Just trust me a little and rest here tonight.”
“Close your eyes now, pretend you are dead,
And empty the troubles that live in your head.”
But something inside me refused to agree,
For dying was never the answer for me.
“I don’t want to die, I’ve got living to do,
I’ve got dreams to discover and skies to walk through.
I want to jump up, I want to sing,
I want to dance with the joys life can bring.”
The crystal grew brighter and started to glow,
Its colours reflected across the white snow,
“Then that’s what I wanted to hear you say,
You’ve still got a life and a beautiful day.
I never intended to frighten your heart,
I wanted to show you where healing can start.
You cannot keep punishing yourself every day,
Then wonder why happiness wanders away.”
I lay there in silence, my eyes tightly closed,
While something inside me began to unfold,
The cruel little voices that lived in my mind,
Were losing the power they’d once had to bind.
I pictured my worries like footprints in snow,
And watched as the wind made each one of them go,
Until all that remained in that kingdom of white,
Was a feeling of peace in the stillness of night.
The crystal then whispered, “It’s time to return,
But there’s one little lesson I hope you will learn.
You cannot be perfect, no matter how hard,
So stop treating yourself like a broken old card.
You deserve all the kindness you give to a friend,
And a heart that’s been hurting deserves time to mend.
Now open your eyes, you’re asleep in your bed,
And gently remove me from on top of your head.”
I opened my eyes and was back in my room,
No kingdom of glass, no mysterious moon,
The crystal was resting upon my forehead,
Just as it had been before I went to bed.
I placed it beside me and turned out the light,
And whispered, “Thank you for showing me tonight.”
Then somewhere between all my dreaming and sleep,
I felt all my troubles begin to retreat.
I woke in the morning, the sunlight was bright,
And somehow my heart wasn’t heavy or tight,
I felt like the person I’d once used to be,
Before all those worries had taken hold of me.
What happened that night, I will never quite know,
Perhaps all my troubles were buried in snow,
But one thing was certain, I’d made a new start,
And the first little change had begun in my heart.
I picked up the crystal, it sparkled once more,
Then whispered the words I’d been waiting there for,
“Now hang me somewhere quite close to your heart,
And remember the lesson whenever we’re apart.
I’ll be your reminder when doubts fill your head,
And rest on your table beside your warm bed.
But never forget, when your confidence falls,
You’re stronger than any of life’s cruelest walls.”
So now when my thoughts start turning unkind,
And yesterday’s troubles come troubling my mind,
I remember the kingdom where glass mountains glow,
And the footprints of sadness disappeared in the snow.
I remember the moment I wanted to dance,
When life seemed to offer a beautiful chance,
And I whisper these words as I welcome the day,
“I’m worthy of kindness, whatever they say.”
For maybe the crystal was magic that night,
Or maybe my heart had discovered its light,
Perhaps it was dreaming, perhaps it was real,
But sometimes a dream shows us what we can heal.
And there by my bedside, when daylight has gone,
The crystal reminds me to keep carrying on,
For the greatest of gifts that it gave unto me,
Was learning to love the person I see
