Veni, vidi, vici—
I came, I saw, I conquered
But the high only lasted so long
*
I soon looked down
From the mountaintop and yearned
For the company that I had left behind
*
They say it’s awful lonely
At the top, a sad reality for those
Who have mastered the summit of life
*
But what is a victory
When celebrated alone
With no one else to witness it?
*
So I descended
The mountaintop and rejoined
The masses far below
*
Veni, vidi, vici—
I came, I saw, I conquered
And returned to the place that I called home
Where I may toil harder
But at least
I’m not alone
