The Common Thing
that someone, one time, said we had

The well that can't be contaminated. A source that has a through line to all that claim humanity
We don't teach it. We expect every functioning adult to have it. We mock children when they can't summon it forth. This thing we label pedestrian won't answer to them.
Irritation arises. Mayhem rages. No one can understand anything.
We pull the common thing from inside our individual cerebral cortexes, to show the children that they have the exact same thing inside them.
The children roll on the floor laughing. Point and wheeze. Stomach aching because we are all holding something different. Conflicting adaptations of the common thing, someone one time, said we had.
We tear each other to shreds, from the sheer bafflement that we were never in agreement. Brain matter stuck under fingernails, eyeballs juiced, hearts bored through.
The youth took samples from our example.
The common thing will tell you what they did with their knowledge of our stupidity.
