The Coming Storm
This poem speaks not only to the outward battles and turmoil that this life often brings, But also of the internal struggles that often set themselves upon us inside the mind.

My heart is torn in pieces,
By the truth of what I know and see.
Left outside the circle,
I stand here facing the reality.
Watching history once again,
Repeat its every same mistake.
Waiting, watching, dreading,
For soon the wars will rage.
Neighbor will turn on neighbor,
Friend will soon turn to foe.
The past reveals all secrets,
Of what the future holds.
Past the point of no return,
Past the point of peace or flight.
The enemy stands before me,
And I know that I must fight.
Hold steady, stand your ground!
Release the birds of fate.
I may not live to see the morrow,
But I’ll stand here in my place.
As the arrows start to fly,
And the ground begins to shake.
The gate begins to rattle,
And I know surely it must break.
Then suddenly in that moment,
I feel a sharp and pinching pain.
As I look to see the arrows,
Piercing deep within my veins.
And as I stagger to my knees,
And look upwards to the sky.
I ponder what my life would mean,
If indeed today I died.
But suddenly with a vigor,
I feel my strength return inside,
And rising to my feet,
I scream out the battle cry.
And leaping from the walls,
Into the enemy below.
I set myself to fighting,
As I’ve never fought before.
I’ll never understand,
Why fate has spared my life the grave.
But the enemy I know now,
Will surely never breach the gate.
Many men will die and suffer,
And some may well escape.
But most will be remembered,
As the ones that conquered fate.
