The Comfort of Rain
A poem for the joy of skies when grey.
I often consider as Autumn approaches,
The comfort of rain
dripping slowly down the windowpane,
Some drops rushing more than others,
You’re completely still.
Radiator burning soothingly into your slippers,
Fingers now in motion,
Caressing the cool glass
Following their trail,
Mocking the race of raindrops.
Satisfaction soars as you open the window,
It gushes in
Invigorating coolness that simply greets,
but cannot penetrate your warmth,
The sudden sound a soothing roar,
That rushes over you
Like a faithful pet that’s found a set of feet to rest on.
The smell of every worry and pollutant washed away,
A hopeful freshness
As if everything about that day and countless others now far gone,
Was also running down the drain.
That constant patter
Leaves no space
To settle on one single thought,
You are content to simply be
And meditate on simply being,
Renegade splashes bringing you back
to bask in this, your moment of solitude
the only one in which,
I find,
You seem to be completely surrounded
By a peace not stagnant,
but alive.
I hope you enjoyed this poem! If you did I'd very much appreciate a like and would love to read any comments you might have. I hope you have the best day.
