The Color of Silence

Poem By Tayyab

They say silence is nothing. No sound. No words. No presence. But they’re wrong. Silence is not empty—it’s painted in colors you can’t hear, only feel. --- Blue The silence after someone leaves you without explanation. It’s not loud, but it bruises you. You sit in your room, eyes wide open, staring at nothing—because the pain is everywhere. That’s blue. Deep. Cold. Infinite. --- Grey Ever sat in a room full of people but felt invisible? That’s grey silence. Not sad—just dull. It’s the color of things fading: attention, connection, even hope. Like fog over thoughts that never fully form. --- Silver Old houses remember everything. The echo of footsteps. The smell of memories. That’s silver silence—nostalgic and sacred. It lives in dusty photo albums and empty chairs. It doesn’t hurt. It haunts. --- White Snow falls. The world softens. Breath becomes visible, and time stands still. White silence is peace. It asks for nothing. It just wants you to pause. And feel. --- Red Sometimes silence hurts more than yelling. After the argument. After the slam of a door. Red silence is fire held in. It burns where no one can see. It’s the silence of teeth clenched and fists curled. --- Gold Then, slowly… silence becomes soft. You forgive. You heal. You stop needing answers. That’s gold. Warm, light, and honest. It doesn’t shine in your face—it glows from within. --- Green Silence in nature is never empty. It sings through rustling leaves and dancing grass. Green silence isn’t lonely. It’s alive—rooted, wild, patient. It lets your soul breathe. --- Amber 2 a.m. silence hits differently. You lie in bed, awake, not alone—but not with anyone either. Your thoughts talk. Your past whispers. That’s amber silence—slow, golden, and heavy with questions. --- Purple After grief, there’s a moment you can finally breathe again. Stillness returns. But it’s changed. Purple silence doesn’t erase pain. It sits with it. It respects what you've survived. --- Black Then there’s the silence that comes with loss. The kind that wraps around your chest. That moment at a grave. That final voicemail you can’t delete. Black silence is full. Final. Unforgiving. --- But silence… It’s not absence. It’s a mirror. A canvas. A story. It holds the weight of unsaid love, unanswered prayers, and forgotten dreams. It shows up in the pause between words, In the glance that means more than a sentence ever could. It arrives when we’re too tired to talk, Too broken to explain, Or too full to need sound. --- Silence is blue when we mourn. Gold when we heal. Green when we grow. Red when we burn. White when we rest. Every feeling has a color. And silence carries them all. --- So next time you find yourself in it— Don’t run. Don’t fill it. Feel it. Look closer. Because the color of silence… is the color of you.
