The Clock In Your Head

You’re just letting time go by

When all the time in the world doesn’t exist

The clock in your head outruns the hourglass

Can’t close the door in your brain that keeps ticking, the arms that keep moving. Who started the countdown?

You can never stop the clock in your head, the one you hear over the cuckoo, 24/7 it keeps on going. Who started the countdown?

the door opens and a figure pops out, painted wood, sliding forward to meet in the middle and calls.

And still you ask: Who started the countdown?

Or maybe the question you should ask is

when did your mind start allowing the sands to run out?

Life is too short, they say and that thought stays .

You could be on top of the world

And feel like you’ve barely made a dent

From the moment you wake up

you tick off the to do list in your brain as you go about your day, you feel the minutes pass: hands wring, head spins, but you keep your eye on the clock as it ticks away at the back of your head.

When you close your eyes, you can finally rest

but once awake, the clock restarts, the cuckoo calls, the door opens and once again, you're running out of time.
