Who am I?

Did you not see my tears pouring down my bruised face?

Did you not hear me scream while I faded,

Like a vampire afraid to face the night?

Of course,

You Didn't;

I was the little shadow,

The drop-out,

Made to walk through my entire childhood

in pain,

And alone in the silence of my screams,

Dancing and singing in the playground,

While being bullied for having a hobby

nobody thought to notice,

But one person did;

That was my singing teacher,

The greatest teacher who ever lived;

My, one, and only true schoolfriend,

I never forget the day I sat in the classroom,

Every single student laughed at me,

Because I couldn't do maths,

"You can do better!" the teacher cried,

"Carol's thick," the class roared;

I hid in the girl's toilets that day,

locked in a cubicle,

Hiding from the world,

And my hidden disabilities,

Crying the day away,

Not one person came forward,

Or asked if I was ok,

Shadow child was forgotten,

She existed only in darkness,

yet once again;

She finally reached her teens,

"It will get better," or so it seemed,

But the cuts, bruises, and scars still

remained unseen,

"Am I worthless?" she asked herself,

Over and Over again,

The bullying was timeless,

No light, and no end,

Then;

She finally reached adulthood,

Though her nightmare was still there,

Bullied for existing,

More cruelty along the way,

She felt she deserved the treatment,

The worthlessness and the shame,

She wanted to sing and be famous,

But that never came;

Instead, her world became blacker,

And into the void she merged,

Her shadow became invisible,

And her cries were never heard,

That was then, but now there is light,

Though she still has to fight,

For, those bullies stole away her pride,

Dignity, sanity, and the destroyed her

self-esteem;

Never the-less Shadow Girl stands tall

with all her might,

Still singing her beautiful melodies,

All through the night;

You see,

Shadow Girl has stepped into the light,

Facing the demons from childhood,

And living her dreams,

Singing with all her might,

She still hurts inside,

But she is freeing herself from the pain,

And is stepping out into the sun's rays,

Because despite what those demons think,

She knows she has a talent,

That the whole world should see.
