Despite her initial resistance, Velvet began to tolerate Moose’s presence. She even found herself amused by his antics—like the time he tried to catch a falling leaf through the window, barking so loudly that June dropped her paintbrush.
Moose, for his part, learned to appreciate Velvet’s quiet wisdom. He stopped barging into rooms and started watching her instead, mimicking her careful movements. He wasn’t particularly good at it, but Velvet noticed the effort and, grudgingly, respected it.
One afternoon, a squirrel appeared on the windowsill. Velvet’s ears perked up, her body tensing. Moose followed her gaze and let out a low growl.
