“Up here, I can see everything. Down there, you’re just… in the way.” Moose’s ears drooped. “I’m not in the way. I’m just… here.” “Exactly.” Velvet leapt gracefully from the bookshelf, landing with a soft thud.

She padded across the room, her movements fluid and deliberate. Moose watched her, his brown eyes wide with admiration. “You’re so quiet,” he said. “How do you do that?”

“By not being a lumbering oaf,” Velvet retorted. She stopped by the window, where a thin beam of sunlight warmed the floor. She settled into the patch of light, her tail curling around her paws.
