The Camera Broke
The camera broke on wedding day,
Just as the bride was on her way,
He pressed the button, nothing came,
And suddenly nothing felt the same.
He checked the lens, he checked the light,
He tried again with all his might,
But something deep inside had failed,
And every photograph was derailed.
The bride was waiting, dressed in white,
The groom was nervous with delight,
The guests were watching, dressed just right,
But he was fighting with the camera all night.
Then someone shouted from the door,
A voice he’d heard once long before,
The room went silent, faces turned,
And suddenly old secrets burned.
He didn’t know what had been planned,
Or why the groom could barely stand,
The bride looked shocked, her flowers fell,
And nobody knew what they should tell.
The camera sat there, broken still,
While tension climbed against their will,
What should have been a perfect day,
Was falling slowly into disarray.
He wished his camera worked again,
To capture what was happening then,
But maybe fate had made it fail,
So truth could finally tell its tale.
The situation developed fast,
And suddenly the wedding’s past,
Came crashing into present time,
With every secret, every lie.
The bride began to understand,
The groom had something close at hand,
A truth he’d hidden far too long,
Something that could not stay unknown.
The photographer stood aside,
And watched the happiness collide,
No camera needed to reveal,
The things that everyone could feel.
Later, when the room was bare,
He picked the broken camera there,
And wondered if it had somehow known,
That some stories shouldn’t be shown.
Four weddings and a camera too,
But this was one he never knew,
For when the camera finally broke,
A hidden truth came into view.
And though no photograph was made,
The memory would never fade,
Because sometimes what we fail to see,
Is exactly what we’re meant to see.
