The Broken Heart Collector

poem/song about an entity that collects the broken hearts of kids ousted by their parents for being LGBTQIA+

By CT IdlehousePublished 5 months ago 2 min read

It’s always the same damn story…

They bring the kids in the dark of night.

They say they’re saving souls for the Lord…

So why do said souls always take flight?

/

I exist because of people like you…

Can’t love your children because of the hate.

I collect broken hearts of the abused…

The ones who couldn’t find a way to escape.

/

I can only wait while they climb to the roof…

I can only stare while they hang up a noose.

The people who can do anything else,

Are too busy thinking they’re saving you.

I can only cry while they load chambers of the gun…

I can only despair while they turn the engine on.

The people who can actually help,

Are too fucking selfish to love the real you.

/

I’m not sent by heaven or even by hell…

I’ve never met any god or devil on the job.

All I know is that I help broken souls set sail…

Across the River Styx to find love their lives never got.

/

I exist because of parents who hate…

Who can’t deal with their son being gay.

Parents can’t understand how heartless it is,

To leave their daughter’s deadname on her grave.

/

I wish I could save you alive,

Remove the evil from your life.

Change your parents’ minds,

Burn down these churches of lies.

So obsessed with heaven,

Yet they make your lives living hells.

All your children’s broken hearts,

Are breaking my shelves.

I want to remove yours, too,

Because they clearly aren't of use.

But I can only sit back

And watch you cleave kids’ souls in two.

/

If I can't save you in this lifetime,

I will find you a world to be the real you.
