The Brisk Slumber

I don't want to go to work today

By Amos GladePublished 11 months ago • Updated 11 months ago • 1 min read

The feeling is crisp

On your breath

On your lips

As you wake and you step out of bed

A chill up your spine

Bare foot on cold pine

Moonlit silence

Softly benign

You've opened your eyes to an autumnal surprise

But you must still be on your way

Before the sun crests its first sunny ray

and vapor rises and fills up your vision

Steaming coffee your primary mission

So you crunch through the grass

And wipe frost from the glass

Hands clasped

You wait for a warmth that will slowly encumber

While the rest of the world takes a brisk slumber
