The Best of Both Worlds
A Poem by Gaille Hunter
The Best of Both Worlds
Baby girl crawls across the carpet
Up to the shiny mirror
Reaches out to touch the smiling face
No need for introductions
So new but so familiar
Meets the best friend she’ll ever name
She’s got the best of both worlds
Nothing holding her back
From all she can be
Without a worry or care of what lies ahead
taking step by step until she flies away
Blushing bride turns to gaze
Into the full-length mirror
All her hopes and dreams have come to pass
A little nervous with the thought of
so much love to give
But delighted by the thrill of it all
She’s got the best of both worlds
A whole life full of possibilities
No need to look back
When life’s an open door
She put her heart and soul
into that band of gold
Silver lady stops to catch
A glimpse of her reflection
Turns side to side
and smiles with glee
Thinks of things she’s done
games she lost
& rights she’s won
Thankful for her work and family
She’s got the best of both worlds
True peace of mind and memories
She’s got nothing to prove
‘cause there in her youth
she gave the best she had
and was the best that she could be
