The Art of Losing

The test of hope

What happens when you try?

You lose and lose and lose.

Your heart fills with water,

and it drags on the floor

as a dead limb.

Words that describe the grief

darken,

shrivel,

and perish.

You tell yourself,

“Have faith, maybe next time.”

The words,

they may not feel true.

But continue to say

“Maybe next time I’ll win,

maybe next time.”

Because this

is nothing but a test

to see how strong willed

you are.

So try, and try, and try.

Until you succeed.

Whenever you feel hopeless,

like life is destined to go nowhere

but downhill,

remember the test.

Study for it

because eventually,

I promise you,

you are going

to win.

The weight of your

happiness

will no longer be

consumed

by the anvil of grief.
