The Architecture of Absence:

Negative Space

By Corey W Harland

Empty, but filled with void,

An omission deep within.

How can I be empty,

If I have to dig further in?

Is there something I'm missing—

A piece of submission?

Did I confuse emotion for tuition,

A fault of blind intuition?

Cover the skin,

A palette bright and full,

Or scars avoiding life?

Is there something missing?

How can living be so dull?

How can being empty feel so full?

Full of dreams, wishes,

Things quit before attempted.

A life of emptiness—

Is it a lived void,

Or deprived and devoid of life's inhibitions?

A negative place.

A quiet space.

The paradox holds me tight:

What is missing from the emptiness

Is it the emptiness itself?

Empty, but filled with void.
