Oh, my clown fish, swim to me,

Let my tentacles keep you safe, you will see,

When you are out wild, if you feel fear, flee!

For you to survive, I am the key,

As you are for me,

Your little striped body fits mine to a tee,

So let us take a plea,

That we will protect each other under the sea.

In the past, my husband and I owned a clownfish. He was a small, adorable creature that happily swam in our eight-gallon saltwater tank. Having a clownfish gave us joy, provided laughter, and some teachable moments. Keeping a clownfish in a saltwater tank is a significant endeavor that includes cleaning, ensuring their well-being, and maintaining the correct water temperature. Every saltwater novice must know one aspect of having a clownfish. An anemone is a must-have when it comes to keeping clownfish.

The Anemone and the clownfish had a symbiotic relationship. Both give and take in this unique relationship. For example, the Anemone would provide the clownfish protection and a safe haven. In return, the clownfish would keep harmful parasites away by cleaning and feeding them nourishing food. We would find the clownfish at night sleeping in the Anemone.

The Anemone’s search for privacy for itself and the clownfish involved movement to darker locations in our tank. Understanding this, my husband would create little privacy coves using corals and rocks so the Anemone would get more comfort. It was a fun and peaceful experience for the whole family. It taught us about relationships, even two working together to create a bond for a lifetime.

Unfortunately, life got busy, and we no longer had the time to give them the care they needed. The maintenance was also so much for us to ensure that the clown and the Anemone had a healthy environment. Therefore, our local aquarium shop helped us re-home this clownfish with his Anemone. At least we have a few pictures and videos of our clownfish with his Anemone to remind us of our time together.

Such a cute photo & informative reading about the cute couple! I have difficulty keeping pot plants alive… so will spare the clownfish & anemone trauma & keep my distance.😉

  • Awww, those little private coves seem so adorable! So sorry you had to let them go. Life sometimes gets so busy. Did you name your clownfish and his anemone?
