The Alien Sat on a Wall

Not saying anything at all

The Alien Sat on a Wall

A little green alien sat on a wall,

With arms so long, and legs so small.

His fingers curled like quiet vines,

His eyes held soft and distant signs.

He watched the world go drifting by,

With tilted head and patient eye.

The stones were warm beneath his feet,

The air around him still and sweet.

He did not jump, he did not fall,

He simply leaned against the wall.

As if the earth might slip away,

Or call him back to where he lay.

Oh gentle thing from far unknown,

With posture tired, yet oddly grown.

What dreams sit folded in your gaze,

What silent songs, what hidden days.

The wind it whispered, stay or go,

The sky it dimmed its evening glow.

Yet there he perched in quiet grace,

A lonely calm upon his face.

And if one day he slips from view,

No sound, no trace, no hint, no clue.

The wall will keep his resting place,

And hold the shape he left in space.
