That One Forest at the Back of That One House
A poem between two poets

I’ve built you a home in the forest
We used to burst through the leaves and make them flutter
The river is nearby to nourish you
Maybe one day we could go swimming
And when it freezes you could slide
And when it thaws we could smash the ice and break plates like we used to
We can listen to the cracks of the tree bark
And the squirrels race through the thrush
Sometimes I think we are still there
One day we even tried to really live there
That was a sad day
But the forest looked so alive
We used to scream all the time
And giggle between the trees
We used roots as step ladder lines
To go down or up
We would always get so winded by the breeze
Going down or up
And the archways?
Those were our portals into that magical world
And that log?
A balance beam covered in moss and mushroom to practice on
We always took a left, the same path
Except when we did that battle in the woods that one time
Remember the dirt bike riders?
They were so loud
Remember the little dwarf toilets?
We found so many acorns treasures there
Do you think we’ll go back one day?
I’m scared they chopped it down
What if it’s different?
What if it’s the same but we’re different?
Do you think it’ll still feel like home?
Definitely.
