That Night Still Haunts

Skeleton.

Every once in a while

While she sleeps

She has a dream

In this dream

There are rainbows and sunshine

There are fairies and unicorns

There are leprechauns and pots of gold

Laughter, singing, and dancing

But even in these whiles of happiness

The night draws in with its black suit of armor

Mounted on its noble steed of hate

Followed by the storm of the past

As the lightning of flashbacks begin

The thunderous roar of yelling and screaming follows

Every once in a while

While she sleeps

She has a nightmare

In this nightmare

There are disasters and rain

There are demons and hellhounds

There are boogiemen and faceless people

Crying, screaming, and war

She wakes up with a start

Heart racing

Body drenched in cold sweat

As reality starts to set in

She is relieved

Her mind is put to ease

The nightmare is over

She can go back to dreaming once more

But every once in a while

While she sleeps

That night still haunts
